Restoration 2009
The most recent restoration work has been taking place on the south wall of the church and round the apse at the east end, facing onto the main part of the churchyard.
The church is mainly built of Northamptonshire ironstone and some of this is rather soft, weathering away over time, so a number of stones are being replaced completely whilst others are being repaired and repointed.

Here you can see a very badly worn stone which, if it were to be left unattended, might permit water to seep right through the wall and into the church.

The worn stone has been removed .
Apprentice mason, Matthew Kaye, tests the fit of the new stone he has fashioned to replace the old one.
The new stone in place.
Architect Dennis Pearson inspects the stone and the work passes inspection.

A stone has been marked by the Church Architect for total replacement
A newly shaped stone matching the original design, safely in place
